Biotech company Bio-Works sharply increased revenue and reported a positive operating result in the first quarter after large deliveries in Europe.Revenue rose to SEK 29.3 million (9.0), an increase of 226.5 percent. The figure is in line with what the company announced in early April.Operating profit came in at SEK 4.2 million (-7.8). Profit after tax amounted to SEK 4.7 million (-8.0), corresponding to SEK 0.05 per share before dilution (-0.10).Order intake meanwhile decreased to SEK 15.5 million (31.6). The order backlog amounted to SEK 17.7 million at the end of March."Order intake varies between quarters, which is natural in our current phase. At the same time, we are seeing positive development in the form of larger deals and deeper customer relationships," CEO Lone Carlbom says in the report. Cash flow from operating activities improved to SEK 5.3 million (-4.4). Cash and cash equivalents amounted to SEK 41.3 million (29.7).The company says sales growth has been particularly strong in Europe and that increased volumes have had a clear impact on earnings as a result of high gross margin and operating leverage.Carlbom says that Bio-Works continues to strengthen its position in the biopharmaceutical production chain and that the company sees more larger deals as well as deeper customer relationships.During the quarter, the company received, among other things, an order worth SEK 11 million from a repeat customer in the biopharmaceutical industry. After the end of the quarter, another order of about SEK 4.2 million was received from a European customer in peptide manufacturing. "By continuing to gain share in a growing market and achieve a stronger position with our customers, Bio-Works will reach the goal of sustainable profitable growth," says the Bio-Works chief.
